It has been a dream of mine to compete in the Dirt Riot series and King of the Hammers for many years now.  I have been building off-road rigs and buggies for upwards of 13 years now; the most notable being the #51 4800 race car with Robby Flandro of Captain Rob Racing and after driving his car at the Agate Colorado Dirt Riot this year it confirmed the fact that I simply had to build my own.

My car is a 2016 Jimmy’s Trail/Spec car chassis. I’m Just starting to put it together and her name is Katii.  The powertrain is a GM LQ9 6.0L V8 engine from a 2006 Cadillac Escalade, a GM Turbo Hydramatic 400 transmission, and I am saving for a 3.8 Atlas Race Case.

The front axle is a Trail-Gear Rock Assault Nine Housing with Reid Racing Dana 60 Kingpin Outers. This front axle will also include Yukon 35 Spline Chromoly Axle Shafts with Yukon Super Joints, Yukon Spindles and Hubs, and Yukon Drive Slugs.

The rear axle is a Trail-Gear Rock Assault Nine Housing with Ruff Stuff Specialties outer flanges to allow for front Dana 60 spindles and hubs. I chose this setup so my hubs and brakes will be the same at all 4 wheels. The rear axle will also include Yukon Dana 60 spindles and hubs.

Steering is a set up from PSC Motorsports. It is their XR Series 2.5 double-ended steering cylinder kit with P pump.

The Jazz 26 gallon fuel cell has already been installed.

The seats will be the Corbeau Baja ultra wide, grey vinyl with DJ Safety Gear 5 point harnesses.

The wheels are the Ultra Beadlocks fitted with Maxxis 40 inch Sticky Trepadors.

I have a Northern Radiator with Dual Spal fans from Jimmy’s 4×4 and the instrument panel will feature Autometer gauges.

I am currently saving for a Yukon 9 inch third members. They will have 5.89 gears with Grizzly lockers. The rear axle shafts and links will be purchased from Branik Motorsports. We will also add Fox 2.0 coilovers, 2.5″ bypasses and 2.5 bumps.   And of course there will be lots of little things, such as switches and brake lines we will need to add to our shopping list.

The goal is to have Katii up and running by KOH 2017.   Of course that may be closer if I had more marketing partners.   If there are any who are interested please contact me at Nick@lowrangeoffroad.com.
